Legionnaires outbreak hits Edinburgh

Please spare a thought for us here in South West Edinburgh, Scotland, where to date more that 60 people have been identified with symptoms of Legionnaires disease.

Edinburgh resident Bert Air (56) died on Tuesday 5 June 2012, although it has been reported that he had underlying health issues.

Mr Air was working at a building site less that 0.5 of a mile from the home of this blog, and the source of the bacterium has, so far not been identified.

We are situated in the outbreak area and water towers at two premises at the bottom of the road are among those that have been checked.

Since I am not a medical expert, I won't claim to be able to even begin to explain how this illness affects patients so I recomend this blog by a proper MD.
