While large areas of the UK have been deluged with snow, here in Edinburgh we have barely experienced enough to create a medium sized snowball. Our temperatures however have hovered around the zero Celsius mark for a while, so it's been "wrap up warm" time since just before Christmas and a perfect excuse to inhabit the local cinemas as much as possible.

Argo - John Goodman, Alan Arkin and Ben Affleck.
(c) Warner Bros. Ent |
Fortunately there has been plenty of interesting films with the local art house theatre showing "
Django Unchained", "
Lincoln" and "
Les Miserables". Here at Footsteps Towers we hope to see them all in time for the
Academy Awards in LA on 24th Feb 2013.

Chasing Amy - Ben Affleck and Jason Lee |
We caught up with "
Argo" at the end of last year and were seriously disappointed there was no Oscar nomination for Ben Affleck as Best Director. Still many of us will break out the "
Chasing Amy" DVD and relive Ben's comedic interplay with Jason Lee as two comic strip creators with a lesbian issue.

Boogie Nights - Thomas Jane, Philip Seymour Hoffman
and Mark Wahlberg |
Undoubtedly the best Kevin Smith movie around, although some might argue there isn't much competition, it's a fun film for all the family. Provided it's the Adams Family. Hard to believe it was released in 1997, the same year that gave us "
Boogie Nights", "
The Ice Storm" and "
LA Confidential".
So the recommendation from Footsteps Towers are
- Keep warm, go see a movie
- Dig out the old DVDs and watch some classic cinema
- Try to catch the Oscar nominated films, then throw popcorn at your TV when your favourites don't win on 24th Feb.
